The Criminal Team Mustoe Shorter Solicitors & Advocates have an experienced team of criminal lawyers, dedicated to providing a personal but efficient service in a difficult area of law and practice. We have a large team of solicitors who carry out work in the Police Station and Magistrates’ Court and one Solicitor Advocate (Tim Shorter) who has rights of audience in all Crown Court cases as well as in the Court of Appeal and House of Lords. This means we can help, advise and represent you as a client from first arrest to final appeal, a breadth of client service and experience that few firms are able to match. The Criminal Team also has several full-time criminal clerks, and is able to call on other solicitors and support staff from within the firm. Offices in Weymouth and Dorchester enable ease of access for clients and convenient facilities for supporting Court work in both towns. Seven Solicitors undertake police work. A full 24 - hour service is provided. Both offices are near their respective police stations. Our solicitors live close enough to ensure that clients arrested are not long without the help and advice that can be so important at the very beginning of an investigation. All the criminal law solicitors take cases in the Magistrates’ Court and we will cover everything from motoring cases to major fraud. When a case gets to the Crown Court, our very experienced Advocate represents many of our Clients but all of our team believe that the advocate should be right for the case and right for you, so we will discuss representation with you, not dictate to you. We have established contacts with several barristers’ Chambers specialising in criminal law and regularly use barristers at all levels from junior to QC. Most criminal work is undertaken through Public Funding (Legal Aid) and we are very experienced in ensuring that state help for fees is obtained as early as possible, and in the right circumstances. Where Legal Aid in not available, we will always ensure that you are fully aware of the costs of any course of action. We will provide initial costs estimates, update them regularly and of course always keep in mind the possibility of recovering costs from the Court or other third parties.
